Every week, my daughter Lilly and I have a one on one time together, eating some good food, having some fun, and taking a deeper look into Gods word. With everything going on in the world today, my heart has recently been turned to Psalms 121. I thought this would be a good chapter for Lilly and I to focus on this month in our walk with God. Here is a short overview of what we discussed. I share it on this blog, with the hope that you will read it, go through the questions, and draw your hope from the only true source.
Psalm 121 - I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Here is a brief breakdown of this song of ascent:
As the children of Israel were ascending to Jerusalem for feasts and sacrifices, they would sing how, they did not find help in hills of their day that were full of temple gods and idol worship. They proclaimed that their help came from God - the maker of heaven and earth.
As we as Gods children today slowly ascend through this life, to the new Jerusalem (Heaven). Our help, our hope, does not come from the hills of government, education, family, business, media, entertainment, or religion, which our temporary at best. Our hope comes from the Lord our God, maker of heaven and earth, who watches over us in this life and the life to come.
Questions:
1 - Do I have a hill that I tend to look to for help / strength?
2 - What does it mean to look to God?
3 - How do I look to God daily in my heart and life?
Scripture Memory: Psalm 121:1-2
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
